Prospective Students

We are always looking for talented, motivated, and enthusiastic trainees to join the Coltman lab. If you have a strong academic background in biology and are interested in molecular ecology, conservation genetics and/or evolutionary biology in wildlife, you are welcomed to reach out to me. Drop me a line, and if you are serious, attach your transcript, cover letter outlining how your interests align with our research activity,  and your CV. I also encourage you to talk to my trainees (email list here) about what it is like to be part of our team.

The following are some important considerations for prospective trainees:

  • Graduate program admission to Western Biology requires a minimum 78% in your last two years of study (see other requirements here: https://www.uwo.ca/biology//graduate/future-students/admission-requirements.html).
  • Unfortunately, I cannot take International Master’s students due to institutional funding policies, however I am open to domestic (Canadian) and International PhD applicants.
  • I am interested in recruiting students with a strong primary interest and academic training in molecular ecology, conservation genetics and/or evolutionary biology.
  • Research experience of any form is an important asset.
  • Familiarity and competence with basic molecular techniques is valuable.
  • Competence or willingness to learn statistics and bioinformatics are perhaps equally as important as experience at the bench.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English (written and spoken) and be scientifically literate, and most importantly, work well with others.
