Christmas cookie decorating

Creativity in the Coltman lab was in full force this week when we gathered with friends to decorate Christmas cookies for a good cause. Our creations were donated to the United Way Merry Market, where they were sold to help raise funds for the United Way.

To make the event uniquely us, we designed and 3D-printed custom cookie cutters representing our study species: bighorn sheep, seals, fruit flies, butterflies, mushrooms, trees, and beetles. Using these cutters, we baked batches of gingerbread cookies (recipe available here) and prepared colourful royal icing. Together at the university, we spent an afternoon turning our research species—and a few holiday classics—into edible art.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to decorate, and to everyone who purchased our cookies. Please enjoy pictures of our beautiful and/or delicious creations.
